A seven colour separation process is provided in which, as well as the conventional Cyam, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK) separations traditionally used in the four colour printing process, additional Red, Green and Blue (RGB) separations are produced on a conventional scanner. The additional separations are produced using the Cyan, Magenta and Yellow channels of the scanner to measure Red, Green and Blue absorption characteristics of the source and to compensate the measured densities such that the separations represent a range of print densities from 0.0D to 2.0D corresponding to densities in the source m the range 1.0D to 3.0D. The transfer duration is also compensated for the compression which takes place in the preparation of the CMYC separations.

On décrit un procédé de séparation en sept couleurs qui produit, outre les séparations traditionnellement utilisées en quadrichromie (cyan, magenta, jaune et noir, CMJN), des séparations supplémentaires rouge, verte, et bleue (RVB) sur un scanner conventionnel. Ces dernières sont produites en utilisant les canaux cyan, magenta et jaune du scanner pour mesurer les caractéristiques d'absorption dans le rouge, le vert et le bleu de la source et pour compenser les densités mesurées de façon que les séparations représentent une gamme de densités d'impression allant de 0,0D à 2,0D, correspondant à des densités propres à la source situées entre 1.0D et 3.0D. La durée de transfert fait aussi l'objet d'une compensation compte tenu de la compression qui intervient dans la préparation des séparations CMJN.
