- 0 - IMPROVEMENTS IN AND RELATING TO COLOUR SCANNERS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a color scanner including a photo- multiplier for detecting light transmitted through A transparency, light scattered from scratches or dirt on the scanned transparency either is lost or tends to fall on an area of the photomultiplier detecting surface that is outside a predetermined area on which unscattered light falls. By placing an attenuating filter over the predetermined area, the response generated by scattered light is enhanced relative to unscattered light, thereby diminishing the effect of scratches or dirt on the output of the photomultiplier.
