ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The present invention is concerned with foams of phenolic resol resins which discolour less quickly than the hitherto known phenolic resin foams. In addition, dyed foams do not darken so quickly with the additive according to the invention. The foams according to the invention contain as stabilizers salts of phosphinic or phosphonic acid, like for example the primary alkali phosphites or the alkali phosphinates. The stabilizers protect the foams against the effects of light and/or air and/or heat; they may be employed in amounts of between 0.1 and 5 weight %. The present invention also provides a process for the production of these foams. A preferred procedure involves premixing the stabilizers with a foamable phenolic resol resin and then mixing the mixture obtained with the remaining substances necessary for completion of a foam and then foaming the combined mixture up in known manner.
