ABSTRACT Disclosed is a columnar body and a process for its manufacture. The body has a thermoplastic plastics matrix and embedded secondary bodies of a non-creeping solid material adhered to the plastics matrix. The secondary bodies are plates which substantially overlap each other in longitudinal and transverse direction and extend substantially parallel to one another and to the axis of the body. The body is manufactured by using an extruder. It has improved mechanical characteristics in longitudinal and transverse direction and especially improved bending, compression and kink resistance.
