In the control of pollutants such as NOx in the exhaust gases from internal combustion engines, ozone is reacted with NO to form NO2, which is then reduced catalytically to N2, by reacting NO2 with ammonia. The NO2 produced can react with the particulates of Diesel engine to exhaust gas to regenerate a particulate filter.

Afin de réguler la présence de polluants, tels que NO¿x?, dans les gaz d'échappement générés par les moteurs à combustion interne, on fait réagir l'ozone avec NO de manière à former du NO¿2?, lequel est ensuite réduit par catalyse en N¿2?, par réaction de NO¿2? avec l'ammoniac. Le NO¿2? produit peut réagir avec les particules provenant des gaz d'échappement d'un moteur Diesel de manière à régénérer un filtre à particules.
