Abstract of the Disclosure A railway car sleeping compartment having a convertible seat and bed arrangement is provided with a ladder connected to the seat and slidingly movable there- with in a longitudinal direction on the car floor to a position wherein the passenger is able to use the ladder for access to an upper berth. In the seating position of the seat the ladder also includes an armrest available to the passenger.
