A combination of a preprinted pressure sensitive label and an electronic article security system target is provided, preferably as a supply of labels on a backing material web with the target between. The labels preferably extend about at least about 1/8th inch around the edge of the target to directly adhere to the products. Articles may be selectively marked with targets so concealed to deter theft with fewer targets. The combinations may be formed by applying first the target, then the label, to the article. Preferably, label and target combinations are supplied on a web and are then applied to the products. Combination label and target supplies may be formed by separating the preprinted labels from their backing material webs, applying the targets to either the label or the backing material, and then combining the label with either the same backing material web or a different one. With discrete cut labels on a backing web, pressure sensitive adhesive coated targets are applied to the web and pressure sensitive labels are applied over them. For high speed production, targets are applied to the adhesive side of an uncut label web that has been separated from its backing material, then relaminating the combination onto the same or a different backing material web. Discharges of electrostatic charge that could damage the target circuits are reduced by using rollers and peeling knives made of non-electrically conductive materials to contact the markers or targets and by using ionized gas to neutralize the charge.
L'invention est constituée par la combinaison d'une étiquette préimprimée autocollante avec une cible de système électronique de protection d'articles. Dans la concrétisation privilégiée de l'invention, les étiquettes sont fixées à un support, la cible étant placée entre les deux. De préférence, les étiquettes doivent dépasser le bord de la cible d'au moins 1/8 de pouce environ pour être collés directement sur les articles. Ceux-ci peuvent être marqués avec des cibles camouflées afin de contrer le vol en utilisant un moins grand nombre de cibles. La combinaison peut être formée en appliquant d'abord la cible à l'article, puis ensuite l'étiquette. Dans la concrétisation privilégiée de l'invention, les combinaisons étiquette-cible sont fournies sur un tissu, puis appliquées aux articles. On peut former des approvisionnements de combinaisons étiquette-cible en séparant les étiquettes préimprimées de leur support, en apposant ensuite les cibles aux étiquettes ou aux supports, et en combinant enfin l'étiquette avec le même support ou un autre. Des étiquettes découpées sont placées sur un support, des cibles autocollantes sont apposées au support, puis des étiquettes autocollantes sont apposées par dessus. Pour les opérations de production à grand débit, les cibles sont appliquées sur la face collante d'un tissu d'étiquettes non découpées qui a été séparé de son support, puis on réappose la combinaison sur le support originel ou sur un autre. Les décharges d'électricité statique qui pourraient endommager les circuits cibles sont réduites par l'utilisation de rouleaux et de lames de pelage faits de matériaux non conducteurs qui viennent en contact avec les marqueurs ou les cibles et en utilisant un gaz ionisé pour neutraliser la charge.
