ABSTRACT An improved crankcase gasket, for use in an internal combustion engine with a vertical crankshaft, having web portions that substantially cover the oil sump. The construction of the crankcase gasket baffles oil thrown around the inside of the engine by mechanical turbulence and prevents excess oil from reaching the cylinder bore. Gasket material under the valve spring box drain operates as a check valve and eliminates the need for an expensive valve stem valve. Oil temperature is reduced with an increased ability for engine operation at greater angles of crankshaft tilt from vertical.
