A combination fiber optic/electrical well logging cable comprising at least one insulated electrical conductor and a plurality of armor wires surrounding the electrical conductor. The armor wires include at least one tube having an optical fiber disposed inside the tube. In a preferred embodiment, the armor wires are disposed in two concentric layers circumscribing the electrical conductor. One or more of the armor wires in the innermost layer of armor wires includes the tube having the optical fiber disposed therein. The tube has an external diameter which is substantially the same as the armor wires in the layer in which the tube is located. The inner diameter of the tube is selected to provide just enough room for the optical fiber to move about freely, but to retain enough crush strength for the tensile and side loads expected to be applied to the cable. In a particular embodiment, the tube includes an inner layer consisting of a thin walled tube, a metal foil layer wrapped around the outside of the inner layer, and an outer layer consisting of another thin walled tube on the outside of the foil layer.
La présente invention a pour objet un câble de diagraphie des puits de pétrole combinant un fil électrique et une fibre optique, constitué d'un conducteur électrique isolé et d'une pluralité de fils d'armure entourant le conducteur électrique. Les fils d'armure comportent au moins un tube renfermant une fibre optique. Dans une des versions préférées de l'invention, les fils d'armure sont disposés sur deux couches concentriques circonscrivant le conducteur électrique. Un ou plusieurs des fils d'armature constituant la couche interne renferment le ou les tubes renfermant une fibre optique. Le tube en question possède un diamètre extérieur qui est essentiellement identique à celui des fils d'armure constituant la couche dans laquelle le tube est disposé. Le diamètre intérieur du tube est déterminé de manière à laisser à la fibre optique le jeu suffisant pour qu'elle puisse se mouvoir librement à l'intérieur, tout en préservant la résistance à l'écrasement nécessaire au câble, eu regard aux efforts de traction et aux charges latérales attendues. Dans une version particulière de l'invention, le tube comporte une couche intérieure constituée d'un tube à paroi mince entouré d'un ruban métallique, et une couche extérieure constituée d'un autre tube à paroi mince disposé à l'extérieur de la couche de ruban métallique.
