A catalyst bed combination comprising a bed of a particulate copper-containing catalyst and, upstream of the catalyst bed, a guard bed in the form of shaped units formed from lead oxide particles and a particulate support material. The guard bed extends the life of the copper catalyst by absorbing halide contaminants in the process stream.

L'invention concerne une combinaison comprenant un lit d'un catalyseur contenant du cuivre particulaire et, en amont dudit lit catalytique, un lit de protection. Ledit lit de protection se présente sous la forme d'unités façonnées, formées à partir de particules d'oxyde de plomb et d'un matériau de support particulaire. Ledit lit de protection allonge la durée de vie du catalyseur de cuivre car il absorbe les contaminants sous forme d'halogénures dans le flux traité.
