A mercury-dispensing combination is disclosed consisting of a mercury-dispensing intermetallic compound A with Hg, including mercury and a second metal selected among titanium, zirconium and mixtures thereof; a promoting alloy or intermetallic compound B including copper, silicium and possibly a third metal selected among the transition elements. There is also disclosed a mercury-dispensing device containing said combination of materials A and B, possibly with a getter material C selected among Ti, Zr, Ta, Nb, V and mixtures thereof, or alloys of these metals with Ni, Fe or Al, preferably in the form of powders compressed as a tablet, or contained in a ring-shaped metallic support, or rolled on the surfaces of a metallic strip. There is also disclosed a process for introducing mercury, into the electron tubes where it is required, by making use of the above-mentioned mercury-dispensing devices.
