ABSTRACT In a microwave heating oven, a safety switch is disposed in an external position outside a heating chamber, and a switch rod made of polypropylene or a similar low dielectric-constant plastic material, is disposed through and across the heating chamber and serves as a thermal switch. Thus, at abnormally high temperature or upon occurrence of a fire in the heating chamber, the switch rod melts to thereby open the safety switch and deactivate the microwave generator.
