-12- A concave for a combine harvester has a front section that is configured to be positioned concentrically with the cylinder of the harvester and a rear section that is mounted on the front section for movement between a conventional mode position concentric with the cylinder and a folded mode position extending outwardly from the cylinder. In the conventional mode position, the concave may be used for threshing tough materials. The folded or open position may be used for threshing dry crops. The concave may be fitted with wires that are at a closer spacing in the front section of the concave than in the rear. This accommodates any crop where the grain will separate through the narrower front gaps. For other crops, the intermediate wires at the front may be removed. The concave may thus be used universally and without the fitting of de-awning plates.
