As curlers get older, they often encounter physical or medical problems which make it difficult for them to get down in the "Hack" to deliver a curling stone. In the past, such conditions usually meant that a curler's career was ended. Fortunately, in recent years, the Curling Associations have approved the use of an "extension stick" by which these individuals can deliver a stone from the standing position. A variety of "extension sticks" are on the market and most of them consist of a metal or wooden pole with a spring or plastic end which fits loosely over the handle of the stone While the "extension sticks" currently available are generally acceptable, they are separate from the curling broom and must be carried with it and constantly moved from one end of the curling ice sheet to the other as the game progresses. This device involves the modification of the curling broom so that it may be used for both delivery of a stone and also for sweeping.
