A payout tube is described for insertion in a radial hole of a wound coil of filamentary material and extending from the inner to the outer wind of the wound coil. The tube comprises an entrance opening and exit opening. The two are in coaxial and spaced relationship with each other. The size of the entrance and exit openings is greater than the normal openings for the entrance and exit openings as determined by the REELEX method of winding of the filamentary material. A flange member surrounds the exit opening for engaging a panel for a container retaining the wound coil.
