A combined heat exchanger and muffler comprises a main body defining a heat exchange chamber and a muffler chamber, with a separator wall disposed therebetween. The separator wall has a throughpassage to permit the heat exchange chamber to be in fluid communication with the muffler chamber. An exhaust inlet is in fluid communication with the heat exchange chamber. An exhaust outlet is in fluid communication with the muffler chamber. A heat exchange coil is mounted within the heat exchange chamber such that a coolant inlet portion and a coolant outlet portion are disposed exteriorly to the main body. In use, exhaust gases enter the heat exchange chamber through the exhaust inlet, whereat the exhaust gases heat coolant in the heat exchange coil, such that coolant exiting the heat exchange coil at the coolant outlet portion is hotter than coolant entering the heat exchange coil at the coolant inlet portion.
