A computer-implemented graphical user interface method receives a dock command to combine a first window and a distinct second window, each window having its own content and its own decoration and being an independent user interface object. The first window is docked to the second window in response to the command to form a single composite window having its own content and its own decoration. The content of the composite window includes at least a substantial portion of the content of the first window and a substantial portion of the content of the second window. The content of each of the first and second windows includes a selection indicator in a control area, the control area having user selectable options specific to the respective window. The first and second windows are user interface tool palettes. The composite window includes a first pane containing the first window content and a second pane containing the second window content. A stack command is received to stack a third window having its own content and decoration with the second pane of the composite window. The second window content and the third window content forms a stacked group of contents, and each of the second and third window contents includes a selection indicator. The selection indicator of each of these second and third windows is displayed. A detach command is received to detach the stacked group of contents from the composite window. The stacked group of contents is displayed in a new composite window and the remaining content of the original composite window is displayed in the original composite window. A collapse command is received to collapse a selected one of the first and second panes in the composite window. The content of each of the first and second windows includes a selection indicator. The selection indicator is displayed and the remaining content of the selected first or second pane is hidden.
Une méthode d'interface utilisateur graphique mise en oeuvre par ordinateur reçoit la commande (dock) de combiner une première et une deuxième fenêtres, chacune ayant son propre contenu et son propre décor et constituant un objet d'interface utilisateur indépendant. La première fenêtre est fusionnée (dock) à la deuxième en réponse à la commande de former une unique fenêtre composite ayant son propre contenu et son propre décor. Le contenu de la fenêtre composite comprend au moins une partie considérable du contenu de la première fenêtre et une partie considérable du contenu de la deuxième fenêtre. Le contenu de la première et de la deuxième fenêtres comprend un indicateur de sélection situé dans une zone de contrôle, celle-ci ayant des options utilisateurs propres à chaque fenêtre. La première et la deuxième fenêtres sont des palettes d'outils d'interface. La fenêtre composite comprend un premier volet renfermant le contenu de la première fenêtre et un deuxième volet renfermant le contenu de la deuxième fenêtre. Une commande d'empilement (stack) permet de grouper une troisième fenêtre ayant ses propres contenu et décor avec le deuxième volet de la fenêtre composite. Le contenu de la deuxième fenêtre et celui de la troisième fenêtre forment un groupe de contenus, et chacune de ces deux fenêtres comprend un indicateur de sélection, qui est affiché. Une commande de détachement (detach) permet de détacher de la fenêtre composite les contenus groupés. Ceux-ci sont affichés dans une nouvelle fenêtre composite et le reste du contenu de la fenêtre composite originelle est affiché dans cette dernière. Une commande de compression (collapse) permet de comprimer au choix le premier ou le deuxième volet de la fenêtre composite. Le contenu de la première et de la deuxième fenêtres comprend un indicateur de sélection. Celui-ci est affiché et le reste du contenu du premier et du deuxième volets est caché.
