ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: In a combustion engine having a combustion chamber defined between the piston heads and the cylinder head the surface of the combustion chamber on the cylinder head side is at least partially provided with a high-temperature resistent and heat-reflective coating consisting of metal or a metal alloy having a catalytic effect on the course of combustion. This coating can consist of a metal from of the ferrous group, in particular nickel or cobalt, a metal from the noble metals group, in particular silver, a metal from the platinum metal group, in particular platinum or palladium, or a metal from the chromium group, in particular chromium, but also out of copper or alloys of the named metals.
