The invention relates to a method for separating CO2 from combustion gases, which can be used in large emissions sources (such as thermal power plants that use any type of carbonaceous fuel). The said method consists in bringing the combustion gases into contact with a calcareous sorbent (calcined limestone or dolomite) at 650-750°C, thereby producing a CO2 capture reaction by means of the rapid carbonation of the sorbent. The sorbent is regenerated in another reactor (calciner) producing a concentrated stream of CO2. This inventive method consists in arranging the combustion chamber in such a way as that the large heat demand in the calciner can be supplied from the said combustion chamber by a solid heat carrier circulating between the combustion chamber and the calciner or through metallic walls separating the combustion chamber and the calciner. To facilitate this heat transfer at the very high temperatures of the calciner, the calciner can be operated at low partial pressures of CO2. These low partial pressures can be achieved by feeding steam to the calciner or by applying a certain vacuum to the calciner.
