We provide a torch cell for a dual fuel engine and a dual fuel engine. The torch cell has a torch cell nozzle at one end thereof and the other end having appropriate means to connect said torch cell to a fuel supply. A fuel injector is mounted in said torch cell at a predetermined angle to an axis of said torch cell. The torch cell has an auto-ignition chamber that is in operative communication with the injector by an injector nozzle passageway. The injector nozzle passageway enters the auto-ignition chamber at a predetermined angle relative to the cell axis. The torch cell provides an improved dual fuel engine and method for operating a dual fuel engine by use of its auto-ignition chamber. We also provide a cylinder head which can replace present dual fuel engine cylinder heads. Our cylinder head has at least one of our torch cells operatively connected to the cylinder head.

Cette invention concerne un pilote d'allumage pour moteur bicarburant et un moteur bicarburant ainsi équipé. Le pilote d'allumage comporte une buse à un bout et un moyen approprié de raccordement à une source de carburant à l'autre bout. Un injecteur de carburant est monté dans le pilote d'allumage selon un angle prédéterminé par rapport l'axe de ce dernier. Le pilote d'allumage comporte une chambre d'auto-inflammation raccordée à l'injecteur par un passage approprié. Ce passage s'ouvre dans la chambre d'auto-allumage selon un angle prédéterminé par rapport à l'axe du pilote d'allumage. Celui-ci améliore les performances des moteurs bicarburant grâce à sa chambre d'auto-inflammation. Cette invention concerne propose également une culasse de remplacement des culasses actuelles des moteurs bicarburant. Cette culasse est équipée d'au moins un pilote d'allumage selon la présente invention.
