The invention provides detailed information about a system and method of obtaining clean hot air for portable air heaters. This invention incorporates several new concepts and it basically describes the use of a novel concept that uses a turbocharger that produces mechanical energy to be directly or indirectly transferred to the process air. The excess turbocharger mechanical energy is used to drive a small electrical generator that can drive small ancillary equipment. For start-up conditions only, a small air fan will drive both combustor and turbocharger. Advantages of this invention over existing portable air heaters are smaller size and weight, clean combustion, higher overall efficiency, lower costs, potential to deliver air at much higher pressure and temperatures and a much larger range of air flow operation.
