IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO THE COMMINUTION OF MINERALS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for comminuting a mineral, for example calcium carbonate, comprises breaking any large lumps of mineral present to obtain a product substantially all of which consists of pieces not larger than 20 mm; thereafter mixing said pieces with water and a dispersing agent to form a slurry containing at least 50% by weight of mineral solids; and agitating said slurry in a grinding chamber of an attrition grinding mill, the only solid granular material present in said grinding chamber during the agitation of said slurry being derived from said mineral.
