A method of authenticating communication between a receiver/decoder and a remote server is disclosed. The method comprises using an identifier of the receiver/de-coder to authenticate the communication, the identifier being based on a smartcard number. Also disclosed is a gateway which is adapted to receive data from a receiver/decoder, which data are not in internet protocol, and to convert said data into internet protocol for transmission to an internet service provider.

La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant d'authentifier une communication entre un récepteur/décodeur et un serveur éloigné. Selon le procédé de l'invention, on utilise un identificateur de récepteur/décodeur pour authentifier la communication, l'identidicateur étant basé sur un numéro de carte à puce. L'invention se rapporte également à une passerelle qui est apte à recevoir des données en provenance du récepteur/décodeur, données qui ne figurent pas en protocole Internet, et à convertir les données précitées en protocole Internet afin qu'elles puissent être transmises à un fournisseur de services Internet.
