A database interface and associated communication program are installed at each node in a communication network. The database interface provides a translation between different record formats held in the databases at each node and a standardized record format used to communicate records among the nodes. The communication program provides a facility for transmitting and receiving records in standardized record format among the nodes. The communication program automatically transmits records which have been modified at one node to all other nodes which contain corresponding records, thus maintaining current records at each node.

L'interface de base de données effectue une traduction entre différents formats d'enregistrement utilisés dans les bases de données de chacun des noeuds et un format d'enregistrement normalisé utilisé pour transmettre les enregistrements entre les noeuds. Les enregistrements qui ont été modifiés à l'un des noeuds sont automatiquement transmis, par le programme de communication, à tous les autres noeuds qui contiennent des enregistrements correspondants, ce qui maintient les enregistrements à jour à chacun des noeuds.
