A communication terminal comprising a rechargeable battery which can be recharged by an external power supply is provided. The communication terminal includes recharge detection means and placement detection means which detect whether an apparatus is placed in a placing unit. A display unit indicates an exhaustion level of the rechargeable battery. An external speaker connecting unit and control means recognize that an external speaker mode has been established and output received voices to the external speaker connecting unit. The external speaker prohibits the exhaustion level of the rechargeable battery from being indicated when the recharge detection means detects that the rechargeable battery is under recharge and the placement detection means has detected that the apparatus is placed in the placing unit. The control means then outputs no received voice to the external speaker connecting unit, allowing exhaustion level of the rechargeable battery to be indicated except in external speaker mode.
