- 25 - ABSTRACT COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK A communications network comprises a number of slotted rings 11 which interconnect nodes 13 so that information is carried between nodes 13 in the form of slot sized packets on each ring 11. Every node 13 has sub-nodes for access to each ring 11 and performs an access protocol such that each node 13 monitors the load on the ring in order to provide a minimum guaranteed bandwidth to the nodes. Each ring 11 has the same propagation length and channel rate and the overall channel rate of the network is high since that is given by the sum of the channel rates of each ring.
