A multimedia terminal comprising a computer system running a communications application program having a graphical user interface (GUI), the system allowing real-time communications of large amounts of data between a plurality of users having their own terminal system. The system provides an easy-to-use GUI that allows the user to select the operation mode that displays a context-sensitive menu when selected. From there, the user may choose one or more players to connect to and also select one of the available communication modes: video conferencing, e-mail, live or fast file transfer. The system also provides a useful media board allowing users to share graphical and text annotations during a multi-user video conferencing session that may also include simultaneous viewing of a videoclip on all participants terminal displays.
