A compact device for reading from and writing to radio frequency identification (RFID) tags is capable of communicating with other devices via Bluetooth, 802.11 and RS- 232 protocols. The modular system design is comprised of four sub modules, specifically; the communication interface, the RFID encoder/decoder, the antenna, and the power module. Modification to one or several of these modules impacts the performance of the device, allowing it to be adapted for virtually any RFID application.
