A simple and compact buccal dosage unit is provided for administering a pharmacologically active agent to a mammalian individual. The buccal dosage unit comprises the active agent to be administered, a polymeric carrier that bioerodes and provides for delivery of the androgenic agent over a predetermined time period, and, preferably, a lubricant such as magnesium stearate. The dosage units are ideal for administering drugs that have low oral bioavailability but are nevertheless potent and can thus be administered in small quantities, i.e., at low dosages, using the compact systems. Methods for administering active agents using the dosage units are provided as well.
La présente invention concerne une unité posologique orale simple et compacte destinée à l'administration d'un principe actif pharmacologique à un mammifère. Cette unité posologique orale comprend le principe actif à administrer, un excipient polymère à bioérosion capable de libérer un agent androgène pendant une période définie, et de préférence, un lubrifiant tel que le stéarate de magnésium. Ces unités posologiques se prêtent particulièrement à l'administration de médicaments présentant une faible biodisponibilité orale tout en étant puissants, ce qui fait qu'on peut les administrer en petites quantités, c'est à dire à faibles doses en utilisant de tels systèmes compacts. L'invention concerne également des procédés d'administration de principes actifs en utilisant de telles unités posologiques.
