COMPACT FLUORESCENT LAMP WITH COPPER-ARC EXCITATION Abstract of the Disclosure A fluorescent lamp comprises a small arc tube in which copper, produced by vaporization of a copper halide, radiates in the near ultraviolet region to excite phosphors on an outer jacket. High efficiency results from the conver- sion of copper resonance radiation at 324.7 and 327.4 nano- meters to visible light by the phosphor material. The use of copper halides in small arc tubes makes possible a compact efficient lamp capable of operating in horizontal and vertical positions. , ..
