A compact fission reactor generates a flux of fission fragments, fission neutrons, and gamma-ray photons (12). The flux excites a noble element converter medium (14) which produces light. Optical means are provided for focusing the light onto an array of photovoltaic cells (28). The photovoltaic cells (28) convert the light radiation (16) into electrical energy for various load applications.

L'invention se rapporte à un réacteur à fission compact générant un flux de fragments, de neutrons et de photons à rayons gamma résultant de la fission. Le flux excite un milieu convertissant des éléments nobles qui génère de la lumière. Un dispositif optique permet de focaliser la lumière sur une matrice de cellules photovoltaïques. Ces cellules photocoltaïques convertissent le rayonnement lumineux en une énergie électrique dans diverses applications de charge.
