The invention concerns a machine for franking a flat object (6), such as an envelope or label, comprising a horizontal aperture for inserting an object leading to two right angled stops (8, 9), a device for maintaining an object by squeezing it between a fixed upper ceiling (2) comprising a window (2') and a lower plate (3) vertically movable by a driving element, an ink-jet printing device (1) whereof the spray nozzles are arranged inside said ceiling window (2'), and a sensor (10) for detecting the presence of an object in the proximity of the angle of the stops (8, 9) triggering the plate (3) driving mechanism for squeezing the object (6) and the printing cycle. A transverse power-driven rake (4) moves the object (6) while it is being held in front of the printing device (1).

A trans-verse power-driven rake (4) moves the object (6) while it is being held in front of the printing device (1).
