A speaker system using a cone type speaker comprises a silencer attached to the backside of the speaker cone. When the cone is vibrating, the rearward radiated sound waves are expanded and absorbed by the silencer. Therefore sound quality deterioration induced by the interference of the rearward radiated waves becomes negligible. A compact, light weight woofer or full range speaker system comprising a silencer is disclosed.
