ABSTRACT A device for effecting particle growth in a flowing liquid with components suspended therein is described which can be manufactured and installed more simply and economically The device comprises a plurality of chambers arranged in a tank in which the flow sense is directed alternately upwards and downwards, a transverse cross-section of at least a part of these chambers increasing in the flow sense, characterized in that the available space within the tank is or can be divided into chambers in such a manner that the outflow end of each one of at least a part of these chambers directly communicates with the intake ends of at least two subsequent chambers. In this manner it becomes possible to obtain an optimal utilization of the available space by means of unitary elements which, moreover, allows an adaptation of different circumstances.
