The present invention is concerned with a compacted substantially triangular strand suitable for making wire ropes therefrom. The method for producing the novel compacted substantially triangular strand is also disclosed. The method includes covering a substantially triangular central group with a first layer of from 7-12 wires, followed by the covering of the thus obtained strand with a second layer of from 10-15 wires before passing the strand through a rotating substantially triangular die to provide a compacted substantially triangular strand.

La présente invention a trait à un toron comprimé essentiellement triangulaire convenant à la fabrication de câbles d'acier. La méthode de production du nouveau toron comprimé essentiellement triangulaire est aussi décrite. La méthode consiste à recouvrir un groupe central essentiellement triangulaire d'une première couche de 7 à 12 fils d'acier, à recouvrir ensuite le toron ainsi obtenu d'une deuxième couche de 10 à 15 fils d'acier avant de passer le toron dans une filière tournante essentiellement triangulaire pour obtenir un toron comprimé essentiellement triangulaire.
