In order to carry out a compaction of the inorganic solid urban wastes, in particular hollow bodies, packages, or the like for the reduction of the dimensions and volumes of said hollow and bulky bodies (R), for example containers and packages in general, such as plastic bottles, carton and/or paste-board boxes, vessels, tanks, tins, pots, blisters, glass bottles, etc., and a more efficlent household differentiated collection, the invention provides a compacting device which exhibits a construction and limited dimensions typical of usual household appliances for personal and private use. According to the invention, the device has a modular-type structure and its configuration may vary optionally from a minimum structure comprising at least a motor or hand-operated (107) compacting unit (1) which can be coupled (3) with at least a waste (R) collection and compaction container (2, 2'), to more and more complex structures.
