2087434 9202098 PCTABS00010 The system relates to transmitting binary data, picture data, or text data from a computer floppy disk, a hard disk, magnetic tape, or optical disk. The system is contained in a single console unit and is called a FISK (12) (the name FISK implies FAXING a DISK). The sender would have a FISK unit (12) console and the receiver would have a similar FISK console unit (12). The sender can insert a diskette into the sending disk drive (22) or indicate a file name located on a hard disk on magnetic tape or on optical disk, dial the desired phone number from the keyboard (50), and in moments have the data transferred to another FISK unit (12) or to a FAX machine (48). In addition, the FISK console unit (12) can receive data from another FISK (12) or a FAX machine (48) and store the information on a diskette, a hard disk, on magnetic tape, or on optical disk. The telephone line used by the sender for his FISK unit console (12) is the same one that the user normally has his FAX machine (48) connected to.
