A cylinder head assembly and a method of providing an air-fuel mixture from a carburetor (510 ) to a cylinder (160) of an internal combustion engine (100) are disclosed. The cylinder head assembly includes a cylinder head (170) and a component (520) coupled to the cylinder head (170). The cylinder head (170) includes a first port (200) having a first passage (570) linking a first end (595) to an intersection, and a second passage (580) linking a second end to the intersection, where the intersection (590) includes an abrupt transition between the first and second passages (570, 580). The component (520) includes a tongue (530) that protrudes into the first passage (570) from the first end (595) to proximate the intersection, where the tongue (530) is positioned along at least a portion of an inner side of the first passage (570), and where the tongue (530) is gradually-reduced in thickness at least proximate the intersection (590).
