ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A composite body (1) as protection against fire and heat consists of a cover layer (2) of an actively needle-bondable fiber fleece and a second cover layer (3) which may consist of the same fleece or a foil (7); between one cover layer (2) and the second cover layer (3) a layer (5) of granular particles (6), for example sand particles, possibly with fire inhibiting additives is arranged. The three layers (2, 3, 5) are needle bonded together by means of holding fibers (4) preferably from the first cover layer (2). Such composite body (1) may be used as a fire blanket. As there is no appreciable loss of particles (6) even when the composite body (l) is cut, protective clothing, for fire fighters may be also made from it.
