ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A composite building element suitable for use in floors, walls, or roofs of buildings has inner and outer wooden boards separated by and secured to an intermediate layer of foam plastic, with each of the boards including two portions connected along a central longitudinal joint. The element also includes an elongated web member extending between the boards and having its edge portions secured to the boards at their longitudinal joints. The web member provides sufficient strength for the building element to be used in floors or roofs, even when the foam plastic layer occupies the majority of the thickness of the building element. The building element may be made to simulate a wooden building log and used in log-type buildings. Since the foam plastic is light, the building element can be made in greater width than a solid wooden log and yet have similar weight.
