A composite window frame assembly for supporting a sash or similar pivoting window unit includes a unitary, rectangular metal or strong plastic frame having top, bottom, and side frame members. This frame has an exterior surface and an opposite interior surface. Four exterior window frame sections extend along and cover the exterior surface while four anterior wooden frame sections extend along and cover the interior surface and are rigidly connected thereto. One of the two pairs of parallel frame members have attaching means for connecting hinge devices for pivotably connecting the sash or other window unit to this pair of frame members.
