- 11 - COMPOSITE CERAMIC MOLD AND METHOD OF PRODUCING THE SAME ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a composite ceramic mold composed of a back-up mold portion and a ceramic shell mold portion, the back-up mold portion is provided with a gas passageway through-hole which extends near to a portion of a casting to be produced, and the back-up mold portion is provided with pores and the ceramic shell mold portion is provided with microcracks, whereby a directional solidification of the product casting portion is promoted and oxidation and decarburization of the casting surface are prevented by passing a non-oxidizing gas through the gas passageway through-hole.
