ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention is a composite material consisting of a vulcanized rubber composition and a zinc reinforcing element bonded to each other, said vulcanized rubber composition comprising a three-component vulcanized mixture consisting of (A) a rubbery copolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated nitrile and a conjugated diene or a rubbery blend containing at least 5% by weight of the rubbery copolymer and at most 95% by weight of another rubber, (B) a liquid conjugated diene polymer having a number average molecular weight of about 500 to 10,000 and containing a functional group selected from the class consisting of carboxyl, hydroxyl, mercapto, amide and pyridyl groups, and (C) an organic cobalt compound acting as a bonding promotor, the amounts of component (a) and component (B) being 70 to 97%, and 30 to 3%, respectively, based on the total weight of the components (A) and (B). The vulcanized rubber composition displays improved adhesion to the zinc reinforcing element.
