A composite member for framing has a central core of longitudinally spaced- apart longitudinally aligned first members along a central longitudinal axis, a parallel pair of opposed second longitudinal members, parallel to the central longitudinal axis and lying in a first plane, the second longitudinal members rigidly secured, as by lamination, in adjacent abutted relation on opposed sides of the first members, the first members and the second members defining therebetween a longitudinally spaced-apart array of cavities along the central longitudinal axis, the cavities extending through the composite member in a direction perpendicular to the first plane, the cavities having cavity openings parallel to the first plane, the first and second members being parallelopipeds.
