A weathershed (40) for use in a composite insulator includes a molded polymer body. The body configuration is such that the leakage distance across the weathershed (40) is increased, while at the same time the amount of material needed is reduced. This provides a lightweight and easily manufactured weathershed (40). The weathershed (40) includes a radially curved outer edge (48) which reduces the electric field gradient and also reduces the tendency to trap contaminants.

Cette invention concerne une jupe (40) d'isolateur composite en polymère moulé. La configuration du corps de la jupe est telle que la ligne de fuite est augmentée et la quantité de matière nécessaire à la fabrication réduite. On obtient ainsi une jupe (40) allégée et facile à fabriquer qui présente un pourtour extérieur incurvé radialement, ce qui réduit le gradient de champ électrique ainsi que la rétention de contaminants.
