The invention concerns a composite material comprising activated carbon and expanded graphite. The material is a block wherein the activated carbon is homogeneously and uniformly distributed in the form of microporous particles. The texture of said particles is characterised by a microporous volume W¿0? ranging between 0.1 cm?3¿g?-1¿ and 1.5 cm?3¿g?-1¿ and a mean pore dimension L¿0? ranging between 2 .ANG. and 30 .ANG., the activated carbon particles have substantially the same texture wherever they are located in the composite material, the thermal conductivity levels of the material range between 1 and 100 Wm?-1¿K?-1¿. Said material is obtained by heat treatment of a mixture of expanded graphite and an activated carbon precursor in the presence of an activating agent at a temperature and for a time interval sufficient to obtain a wear rate of the activated carbon precursor ranging between 5 and 70 % by mass.

L'invention a pour objet un matériau composite comprenant du charbon actif et du graphite expansé. Le matériau est un bloc au sein duquel le charbon actif est réparti de manière homogène et uniforme sous forme de particules microporeuses, la texture des particules est caractérisée par un volume microporeux WO compris entre 0,1 cm3g-1 et 1,5 cm3g-1 et une dimension moyenne des micropores LO comprise entre 2 Å et 30 Å, les particules de charbon actif ont sensiblement la même texture quelle que soit leur localisation dans le matériau composite, les conductivités thermiques du matériau sont comprises entre 1 et 100 Wm-1K-1. Ledit matériau est obtenu par traitement thermique d'un mélange de graphite expansé et d'un précurseur de charbon actif en présence d'un agent activant ô une température et pendant une durée suffisantes pour obtenir un taux d'usure du précurseur de charbon actif compris entre 5 et 70 % en masse.
