Disclosed is a process of preparing a porous composite membrane by depositing a dispersion of discrete particles on a porous substrate to obtain a composition, and stabilizing the composite. Also disclosed is a porous composite membrane comprising a stable array of partially coalesced particles on the surface of a porous substrate.
