Windows, doors and the like are constructed from a composite frame structure combining both metal and plastic components. The frame structure includes a rigid, integral self-supporting metal frame enclosed by a similar rigid, integral self-supporting plastic frame. The metal frame is formed from a plurality of hollow metal members and connectors received internally within the open ends of the metal members for rigidly connecting the members together. The resulting windows and doors have enhanced esthetic appeal while, at the same time, providing a weatherproof structure of enhanced strength.
