The invention is directed to a composite nonwoven fabric (10) comprising first and second nonwoven webs (11, 13) of spunbonded substantially continuous thermoplastic filaments, and a nonwoven hydrophobic microporous web (12) of thermoplastic meltblown microfibers sandwiched between the first and second nonwoven webs. The filaments of the nonwoven spunbound webs are formed of continuous multiconstituent filaments which include a lower melting gamma radiation stable polyethylene polymer component and one or more higher melting gamma radiation stable polymer constituents, wherein a substantial portion of the surfaces of the multiconstituent filaments consists of the lower melting gamma radiation stable polyethylene constituent. The nonwoven hydrophobic microporous web is formed from a gamma radiation stable polyethylene polymer. The webs are bonded together to form the composite nonwoven fabric by discrete point bonds in which the polyethylene constituent of said filaments and the polyethylene of said third nonwoven web are fused together.

La présente invention concerne un composite non-tissé (10) comprenant une première et une seconde nappes (11, 13) constituées essentiellement de filaments thermoplastiques continus désorientés et comprenant une nappe (12) microporeuse hydrofuge non tissée de microfibres thermoplastiques de type "meltblown" en sandwich entre la première et la seconde nappes en non-tissé. Les filaments des nappes sont formés de filaments continus à plusieurs constituants qui incluent un composant polymère de polyéthylène stable aux radiations gamma et à bas point de fusion et un ou plusieurs constituants polymères de polyéthylène stables aux radiations gamma mais d'un point de fusion plus élevé. Les surfaces d'une partie substantielle des filaments à plusieurs constituants se composent du constituant de polyéthylène stable aux radiations gamma à bas point de fusion. La nappe microporeuse hydrofuge nontissée est constituée d'un polymère de polyéthylène stable aux radiations gamma. Les nappes sont agglomérées ensemble pour constituer le textile non tissé par des points d'agglomérations discrets obtenus par fusion du constituant polyéthylène des filaments à plusieurs constituants avec la troisième nappe non tissée.
