The present invention relates to topical compositions containing a dispersion of composite particles. Each of such composite particles contains one or more core particles encapsulated or entrapped in a polymeric shell. At least some of the core particles are formed of a material capable of causing generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Each of the composite particles further contains: (1) a first antioxidant co-encapsulated or co-entrapped with the core particles inside the polymeric shell for quenching or scavenging ROS generated in the vicinity of the core particles, and (2) a second antioxidant coated over the polymeric shell for preventing or reducing oxidative damage to the skin, such as lipid peroxidation. The particle dispersion of the present invention therefore can be readily formulated into topical sunscreen compositions with organic sunscreen agents susceptible to oxidative decomposition or degradation to provide improved protection against skin damage caused by exposure to UV light.
La présente invention porte sur des compositions topiques contenant une dispersion de particules composites. Chacune de telles particules composites contient une ou plusieurs particules de cur encapsulées ou emprisonnées dans une enveloppe polymère. Au moins certaines des particules de cur sont formées d'une matière apte à provoquer la production d'une espèce réactive de l'oxygène (ROS). Chacune des particules composites contient en outre : (1) un premier antioxydant co-encapsulé ou co-emprisonné avec les particules de cur à l'intérieur de l'enveloppe polymère pour l'extinction ou l'absorption de la ROS produite au voisinage des particules de cur et (2) un second antioxydant appliqué en revêtement sur l'enveloppe polymère pour empêcher ou réduire l'endommagement oxydatif de la peau, tel que la peroxydation de lipides. La dispersion de particules de la présente invention peut par conséquent être aisément formulée en compositions d'écran solaire topiques avec des agents écrans solaires organiques sujets à une décomposition ou dégradation par oxydation pour fournir une protection améliorée contre l'endommagement cutané provoqué par l'exposition à de la lumière UV.
